I've been a user of Articulate Studio now for about three years. I've been beta testing the new Articulate Studio 2009, which has just been released and I reckon this does the job for anyone looking at a desktop rapid development tool.

The learning professional as storyteller

That's why it's so much more difficult to run a workshop for the first time - it can take quite a while to come up with all those anecdotes and examples that bring the event to life. Subject matter experts will find it much easier to tell stories than to articulate what they know in terms of neat and tidy abstractions.

We could use them to show how knowledgeable and articulate we are or we could put ourselves in the learner’s shoes and communicate in a way that makes their job much easier. Of course, you will need to use unfamiliar technical terms from time to time – just make sure you define them carefully and provide examples of how they should be used.

Although primarily aimed at those who present face-to-face, this book has great relevance to anyone who builds e-content based on slides (such as those using Articulate or Adobe Presenter) or who presents using web conferencing. The book is full of great examples and tips. So, no pressure then.

Cath Ellis recently set out her ten commandments of e-learning and this prompted me to try and articulate my own. Put the idea into context using demonstrations, examples, cases and stories. Use plenty of relevant examples and your idea is much more likely to be understood and remembered.
