Articulate has told me that they have an issue with Windows 8 for both Storyline and Studio, but are working on fixing it. If a customer purchased your courses (regardless of if free or not), you had the data to see where they were going, which aided in whether you needed to create more courses, similar subject, assuming multiples were going to the same, or not. Articulate Storyline – $1,398 per license (they seem to be into the “everything must go” marketing angle where a “until the end of the month” is becoming a staple. Articulate Studio – also offering a special deal at $1,398 but you also get Studio 13 for free – limited deal. Why not #1?

I recall a conversation I had last year with some folks from Articulate who informed me that PowerPoint is an authoring tool. Two problems that I see with PPT being used as an authoring tool is that to make it engaging, fun and interactive you have to use what the product includes, and those templates are a mixed bag. . Themes and customized templates- Many have it including the ability to do a custom skin of your own colors and branding. While I am thrilled to see more templates, what I am not thrilled about is the number of templates. Some are really lame and I would be unimpressed if I was a learner taking a course with that template.

Tell them, Craig Weiss says I should get it for free. The wonky angle is that their e-commerce is tied into Shopify, so yea you get e-commerce for free, but pay for the Shopify account. Avatars/Actors/Templates. While they do offer a free version – which is quite nice, the fee based version (which isn’t that pricey) offers a stronger set of features. 2 Articulate Storyline. Now, it seems they finally got it. SCORM/AICC. Features I like include: HTML5 output. Digital repository of learning objects.

Some products including Articulate Studio and Storyline use the Microsoft SDK PowerPoint ribbon as their main ribbon. Under getting started, it says templates – but that is a misnomer, because it doesn’t come with templates. Just promise me Microsoft that you continue to make Mix free. And make it better.

In the MOCC world, it continues to be pretty awful in terms of completion rates, although folks still swarm to it as though being free ensures wonderful content. . Articulate Rise, is a cloud-based authoring tool, not a hybrid – and will fully admit as so. It is still a work in progress. . I wish everyone would do that.

I was so amazed at what it could do, I started thinking to myself, hmm, I can use this for some videos I will be creating that are tied to e-learning (and free for people to take, etc.). They offer those templates, avatars/actors that you see in many authoring tools products including Articulate, among others. UI looks sharp.

Templates – growing at quick clip. Lots of royalty free stock photo options here – you still have to buy the license mind you, but you can find truly “free” without giving credit to anyone and add it. People like free. The Blu-Ray will be region free, thus you can set it to either PAL or NTSC.

Sure there were exceptions on the desktop side – most notably Articulate Storyline, but overall until desktop vendors see the advantages of SaaS, especially with real time collaboration and peer review, tablets will be slow going. I suspect some vendors might tie it together in some pricing approach, giving an appearance that it is free. . Then Articulate Studio appeared. Actually it was more of Dreamweaver that came with templates (at least IMO). They all had a learning curve. But wide adoption for the masses wasn’t there.

While the assumption would be that all the products are alike, or that fee based tools are superior to their free counterparts, nothing could be farther than the truth. Templates with some learning objects? WYSIWYG templates (either one flavor or multiple flavors) and minimal capabilities inc. Oh, and they are all free.
