In the next few days I will write a blog on the ASTD ICE 2014 conference which is held this year in Washington D.C. The most surprising thing was that he applies curation for formal courses. A bit more on what big data is and where it comes from. The post ASTD Conference part 1 appeared first on Easygenerator. The process of curation is aggregation, distillation and reflection.
ASTD's Big Question for December 2008: New Learning
DECEMBER 26, 2008
The ASTD Big question this month is What did you learn about learning in 2008? Mostly about finding a good "model" for mobile learning course design, how others tend to view immersive learning environments and how Social Media is taking off in the least likely places. Too many mobile learning initiatives want to place entire courses on a mobile device.not good.
Review of ASTD International Trade Expo
MAY 11, 2012
With great anticipation I entered the huge expo at ASTD International show earlier this week. would estimate that there was a 60-40 split, still instructor led driven, but even a significant number of the ILT vendors were offering subsets or capabilities to turn their ILT into online via webinars or online courses. If you think they used the ASTD app and wrote down some notes, I think you would be surprised. The course they show you uses educational terms, not corporate terms – which is funny since the product i.e. integration with Salesforce.com is purely corporate.
ASTD International Conference Day 1 Wrap-Up
MAY 20, 2013
Welcome one and all to the wrap up of the ASTD international conference and expo. Why hasn’t ASTD figured out how to do things right. Once again, ASTD dropped the ball. Apparently there must be a huge demand for scalping ASTD badges or hood winking ASTD for access into their show. If I could give ASTD a grade it would be a massive F. dominKnow – has come out with a responsive capability, enabling you to create, edit and save a mobile look for your course. First day cool product of the show. Leapfactor. Comes with online/offline synch.

Analysis of ASTD International Conference and Expo 2013
MAY 28, 2013
It’s the yearly review of the ASTD International Conference and Expo. First off, this part is going to sound like I’m bashing ASTD, and perhaps to a degree I am. It is not like this is the first go around for our beloved association in having a conference and trade show. If you were a volunteer to ASTD, this is not about you – it is solely about ASTD. ASTD bags – always nice. It would seem to me that in order to push a lead towards a potential sale is to offer a special ASTD International show discount. You can track courses?
ASTD TechKnowledge 2013, Day 2
JANUARY 31, 2013
SaaS product – but here’s the thing – if you want the course to be in your LMS – it can but it still sits on the ZZ server side and not in your system (should note that the LMS connectivity is available only in the $40/u version). It really doesn’t get any easier then using this product, but while it is not ideal as a standalone it is perfect as a component within your course. Of course you had to sit down and go through the presentation/demo of Presenter – but still – nice one. Wow, wasn’t that marching band fantastic?
ASTD International trade show wrap up day 2
MAY 21, 2013
Back for another installment of the ASTD international trade show. Recap of ASTD TechKnowledge 2013: Day 1
JANUARY 30, 2013
Okay, the first day of ASTD TK13 has wrapped up – at least from the expo side of the house. It’s one big drawback – no support for SCORM, but hey, since it is ideal for sticking in to your course, rather than as a standalone authoring tool, it works. Follows a conversational approach to learning – which is so much better than hearing the word and then repeating it, with zero idea on what it means and more importantly, how to use it in general conversation. I see it not only as a standalone but also as a course or courses within a learning platform.

9 Ways to Use Video in Your Online Training Courses

Design Day and the ASTD Big Question for July
JULY 26, 2007
Around the same time, the ASTD Learning Circuits Blog had the July "Big Question" which was "Choosing Tools" which is actually a series of questions: How does the eLearning design process need to change to accommodate such a wide variety of tools? Yes, of course it will continue. I left a comment on Tony Karrer's blog about creating a "Design Day" so that everyone in the blogosphere adds a comment about the importance of instructional design as opposed to focusing on technology. It is a great entry outlining 3 elements of good design. Do they need to learn new tools constantly?
How to Reduce Your Course Development Costs By 90+ Per Cent

Research indicates that the time, effort, and cost to create e-learning courses using authoring tools is exorbitant. 9 Time Saving Tips When Building Courses

At a recent workshop I was chatting with someone about simple ways to speed up course design. And there are many ways to do it, some covered in this post on course navigation.

An energizing retreat – ASTD 2013
MAY 28, 2013
I spent most of last week in Dallas, Texas for the annual ASTD International Conference – a HUGE gathering of like-minded folks and an excellent professional retreat. Liz didn’t suggest these were all bad, of course – only that they can actually shut down others’ creative energies and hinder their contributions, so we (I!) happened to attend Julie Dirksen’s session and came away with new perspectives and new references. I saw Karl Kopp speak on the topic at the Philadelphia ASTD chapter conference just a few days before I left for Dallas. need to be careful. Gamification.

Are You Qualified to Build E-Learning Courses?
MAY 15, 2012
In a recent post I made this comment about rapid elearning tools: Rapid elearning played a role in the evolution of elearning mostly because it took course creation out of the hands of a few programmers and placed it into the hands of anyone who wanted to create a course. Someone asked if that’s a good thing to place the tools in the hands of anyone who wanted to create a course.

How Can Infographics Produce Better E-Learning Courses?
MARCH 27, 2012
Of course, not everyone’s a big fan of infographics. That’s very similar to what we do when our subject matter expert hands us a 300-slide PowerPoint file to be converted to an elearning course. Many elearning courses have too much data on single slides. How can you apply what you see in the infographics to your own courses? April 10 : Jacksonville, FL ( NEFL ASTD ).
7 Free Handwritten Fonts for Your E-Learning Courses
DECEMBER 18, 2012
I like to use handwritten fonts in my courses. guess I could start making more posters at home or elearning courses to teach my kids how to clean their rooms. If you’re interested in a workshop in your area, have your local ISPI or ASTD chapter contact me. They work well when I add them to speech bubbles, callouts, or captions. Based on the feedback, the examples were a hit. I got quite a few emails asking how to build a similar type of course. Tidbits.
Learning: Playing the Blame Game
AUGUST 20, 2014
Things have taken an ugly turn. Not only are we not creating learning for learners, we act as if our poor learning design and lack of innovative thought is the learners fault. “I can’t help it if they are too lazy to read.”. “If they can’t figure out how to maneuver within the course, that’s not my fault.”. When did shaming the learner become okay? It’s just easier to blame the victim.
