One of the first definitions for e-learning is ASTD's , who define it as covering a wide set of applications and processes, such as Web-based learning, computer-based learning, virtual classrooms, and digital collaboration. In other words, e-learning does everything in the corporate world but training!

Jenna Papakalos: Communities of practice belong to training. Plug for ASTD - CPLP Certification includes all of these areas of expertise. What is distracting CLO's from taking ownership of it? Bob MacKie: There is also learning using community of practice outside the organization e.g. purchasing agents, chefs etc.
