Last night I presented at the Greater Philadelphia Chapter of ASTD and ran into a bunch of old friends and made some new ones. The meeting was well attended by a large number of ASTD members, some wanted see what the hype was about, some had plans to work with clients in 3D virtual worlds and some were just curious.

With great anticipation I entered the huge expo at ASTD International show earlier this week. I would estimate that there was a 60-40 split, still instructor led driven, but even a significant number of the ILT vendors were offering subsets or capabilities to turn their ILT into online via webinars or online courses. It’s one big drawback – no support for SCORM, but hey, since it is ideal for sticking in to your course, rather than as a standalone authoring tool, it works. I always joke about how many times I’ve had to take a course on how not to receive bribes, yet I’ve never been in a job where I was important enough to be bribed. The reason I had to take the course was because somewhere in the organization it was determined that everyone had to learn how not to get bribed whether or not it was relevant.
