Im literally not a gamer. Im not sure how I got into games.but I think it had something to do with PONG. So, I am definitely a Gamer 4.0 But Im so lost at sea for the most part in these environments. But Im no gamer. I dont do the online social games, so Im not a Gamer 4.0, but Im definitely a gamer.

This gender gap is striking to me, too, in terms of who is talking about games/immersive learning and instructional design. Im right with you. Im a female instructional designer in my late 30s. One thing is definitely changing all of this, and thats my kids. So these two kids are definitely digital natives.

That said, Im a little concerned that the gamer mentality is sometimes presented as important to corporate culture and that as a result women should get into gaming. Im a bit of an über a-hole when it comes to stereotypical representations - the giggly "girl" (which is the name of this episode) just lights my match. Which is correct?

This is my first mind mapping experience so Im mostly learning how to use a mind mapping tool. Feeling like the exercise itself is the learning event -- not so much the listing of individual tools (although thats a bonus) -- but seeing how everyones collaborating. Im a linear reader in recovery and have been actively learning how to skim books and not feel guilty about it. Lots of practical ideas and examples for turning basic teaching points into learning games -- from casual games to teach facts and concepts, to detailed simulations that teach procedures and problem solving. This may be why the concept of informal learning is such a hard sell. Formal training, is by definition, not messy. As Michael Allen says in Michael Allens Guide to e-Learning , "you can teach someone, but you cant learn someone" (to echo something Mark Oehlert recently ranted about ). But Im learning.

Im a major geek, yet I avoid Second Life and continue to be skeptical about its use in elearning. But there are definite gender hurdles. This is a main way of staying connected to friends.
