I was building a demo for a workshop and needed a few safety training images. Fortunately Microsoft has some decent images available on their site. Click here to get an image search box. Microsoft’s Services Agreement: I get a lot of questions about whether or not you can use the images. Below are some of the images from Style 401. Ignore the “no results” message.

Then copy and paste it back in as an image using Paste Special (.png). Most image editing applications allow that. In this interaction, we’re working with a single image that has multiple hyperlinks. In the image above I show an example of titled hyperlinks. And in the image below I show titled objects on the slide. In this template, I added the image of the four people on the master slide. Then I pasted a copy of the image on the slide itself. Layer images for more effect.

If you want to change the images in the sections, that’s easy to do. Right-click on the shape and then fill it with a different image. You can move the image around the shape using the offset X and Y axis. Change Your Background Image. Instead of a template, try adding a background images that matches the content of your course. The image above shows a quiz using the default background and one that uses a richer one. That background is a simple stock image and makes a perfect way to show off the art work in a museum. You don’t need to be a graphics artist, but you should know the difference between a bitmap and vector image because they play a role in the quality of what you see on the screen. The ones that get pixelated are bitmap images. When you scale the image, you’re scaling the pixel. The images that don’t pixelate are vector images. It’s Not about the Images.

Today, we’ll look at how to manage the images used in elearning courses. Essentially there’s no right or wrong way to manage your images. We can waste a lot of time looking for images and assets that are spread across multiple computers and network drives. Picasa or Windows Live Photo Gallery (both free) will scan your hard drive and locate images. This keeps it simple.

Creating the avatar is simply a matter of uploading an image and then applying the settings so that the mouth and eyes are detected. Considering how fast it converts the images to speaking avatars, I’m pretty impressed with the overall quality. Instead of a static image, you have a talking head. Convert Static Images on the Slide: You can also add the image to the slide.

If you use Microsoft Office.com or the Microsoft Office Web Apps, you may have access to media images, clip art, animations, sounds, music, video clips, templates, and other forms of content (“media elements”) provided with the software available on Office.com or as part of services associated with the software. These slides are easy to re-use because all you really need to do is swap out the images and text content. In the same sense, you have access to some elearning examples like in the image above, but you may not need to use everything in them.
