On January 29, 2013, I am partnering with Koreen Olbrish on a pre-conferene workshop at the ASTD TechKnowledge Conference. There is no point in creating a game in a business environment if it doesn’t help improve performance. I just received a question that I'm sure often is on the minds of people in eLearning - which conference they should attend (eLearning Guild DevLearn or ASTD TechKnowledge). Here's was the specific question (and all the information I have to go on) to help advise this person - I have been trying to decide whether to attend DevLearn 2008 or ASTD TechKnowledge in 2009. I'm hoping that everyone can weigh in on their thoughts. have never attended either. have been designing and developing elearning for about a year. Any suggestions?

ASTD TechKnowledge 2008 is coming soon in San Antonio. To help me prepare, I went back to a few previous posts on related topics. It also supposes you can get into and use ASTD CONNECT for the conference. Now that it's less than a month away, I thought I'd sit down and try to do some conference planning. need to figure out what questions I really have for this conference. I'm going to have to think a bit about that and come back to it. It somewhat presupposes you have a purpose. don't think I have a login yet. Does anyone else? Maybe it's the separate space.

Tony Bingham, President of ASTD, is doing his introduction, and his content is: Web 2.0, And, it's somewhat surprising to see a relatively slow moving organization, ASTD, driving this discussion. Everyone needs to go back to school (interesting that he assumes that going back to school will help I'll soon be doing a session on Blogging and Social Bookmarking for Personal and Group Learning. What a great setup for my presentation. Thanks Tony. He was part of the team that worked on Britannica Online.

My first impressions of ASTD: ‘wow, what a huge conference’ and ‘wow, these are traditional training people for whom most of this eLearning stuff is kind of exotic and/or quite overwhelming and threatening.’ Jealous?

I'm on the flight back from ASTD TechKnowledge and thought I should try to capture some initial thoughts from the conference and sessions while it was still fresh and before life clouds my memory. I did two sessions and face time at the conference. I'm going to do a similar presentation in June at ASTD ICE in San Diego. used suggestions from Conference Breakout Sessions to help me design this session. also had some really good lunch conversations. found that one-on-one and small group is a fantastic way to have meaningful discussions. How to Create a Learning Journal to Go with Your E-Learning Courses

Let them know that the learning journal is their personal training manual that they can always reference later if they need more help.
