With great anticipation I entered the huge expo at ASTD International show earlier this week. Learning has been minimal. Mobile Learning. Lots of giveaways for iPads, Kindle Fire – etc. Some angle to game based learning – either an app or actual product. Social Learning. If you think they used the ASTD app and wrote down some notes, I think you would be surprised. Blackboard Learn for Sales – Let’s talk about these guys in particular. IMO, this is not mobile learning. Works with mobile devices.

In the webinar, I brought up how LMS vendors were themselves perpetuating the myth of the bad things of social media (which is a necessary component of social learning), so, rather than identify the facts and data to potential clients who are concerned about social media and thus social learning, they instead do not include it in their system. common argument I’m hearing from vendors on why they do not offer a social learning component in their system. &# “Companies are blocking social media access at their site and/or have social media governance policies&#.

Latest data: 95% of the tablet market is owned by iPad. Samsung Galaxy S is expected to be the first real challenger to the iPad, it runs on Android OS, offers Flash 10.1 There are over 30 tablets already in the market, besides the iPad, including some that run on the Android OS. The latest projected number of just iPads to be sold by the end of 2010 is 19 million units. Again, the iPad runs only with HTML5, not Flash 10.1. But with LMS vendors jumping into the mobile learning sector, at least in some cases, it may be a tad misleading. and HTML5.
