open source software options: Audacity. Mixer–no open source ones out there, but Audacity does a lot. At the other end of the spectrum, you can use a headset mic and Audacity. Audacity has its own tutorials, including video. Save as Movie. He records in Audacity, then puts the pieces together in Camtasia.

But the real reason is that unless you’re doing heavy photo and design work, Photoshop is probably overkill for your humble content editing needs (mainly cropping, resizing, making small adjustments, etc). Steinberg’s WaveLab and Adobe’s Audition ) but Audacity is both free (can’t beat that) and full featured enough.

Audacity : free open source audio recording and editing software. Windows Live Movie Maker : free and simple-to-use video editor. Photo Resizer : use this application to quickly resize images to a specific resolution. You can find photos, illustrations, video clips, and some Flash files. This is the one I use.
