Q : I am curious on why Cornerstone On Demand, Saba and SumTotal do not appear in your top twenty lists even though they appear on other sites as the best products in the market. I always hear “I’m looking at SumTotal, CoD, Expertus”, when folks mention it to me. So, back for another installment.

When someone says traditional, they often are referring to Cornerstone, SumTotal, Saba, SuccessFactors and alike. If you are going to have one, then let’s update them by having the ability to record audio/leave my voice on it, even audio and video. . But flip over onto corporate and the floodgates open.

Say what you will about Cornerstone and SumTotal, but neither are on this list. . Audacity – It is a free, open-source audio tool. No VR Headsets. Surely, Google Cardboard should be on there. Last year, they sold 76M units for it. Oculus Rift – hello? Can match many you find in authoring tools.

Better yet, even without the cam, you can still hear audio on tablets and see a web chat room, with your net access. Leader Technologies – Audio Conferencing. Arkadin Mobile – Audio Conferencing. Yep, an app. Yes, they have an app. It works for their Total LMS (Enterprise) and for their Geo Learning Maestro.

Cornerstone and SumTotal already note they have a content-first strategy, and just in the past few weeks, even more, vendors are adding this to their repertoire. You see a video (self-contained), and the system publishes automatically a transcript of the audio (this is not the same as CC). I liked it.
