Thursday, January 2, 2020, 11AM – 12PM PT: Accelerate the Development of Emerging Leaders (Free for ATD members)
There’s an urgent need for effective leadership in our institutions of higher learning, government and corporations. Emerging leaders are all around us, but they need help developing into effective leaders. This webinar, hosted by Eddie Turner, The Leadership Excelerator® , will explain how to use the power of coaching to accelerate the development of them all. You’ll be able to:

  • Define effective leadership and explain why so many people in positions of authority fail to exercise leadership.

  • Recognize opportunities for employee coaching.

  • Recommend effective coaching program leaders.

This session is designed to appeal to individuals who are new to leadership and seasoned practitioners. New leaders or people managers, experienced leaders, those desiring to become a leader and executives are all invited to attend for a unique perspective on leadership.

Tuesday, January 7, 2020, 9AM – 10AM PT: Easy and Effective Storytelling with PowerPoint Morph
Morph is a cool new transition for PowerPoint in Office 365. You can seamlessly and easily go from one slide to another and make objects change size, colour and position. There are some interesting ways to use Morph beyond a standard transition. This session, by Richard Goring, Director at BrightCarbon, explores ways to really push the effect and tell stories in a way that wasn’t possible before in PowerPoint. You’ll see techniques like lens effects, reveals, cutaways, and complex sequences that’ll push your storytelling to another level, and it’s all done with standard PowerPoint.

Wednesday, January 8, 2020, 9AM – 10AM PT: Best Practices for Implementing Gamification in Your Training Programs
Gamification is an important and powerful strategy for influencing and motivating people. Unfortunately, many people think that gamification means adding a game, making a computer or a video game, or simply adding points, badges and a leaderboard to their learning program. Because of this confusion, most don’t understand how to deconstruct popular games like Minecraft, Fortnite or even Monopoly to effectively drive the learning and behaviour they want or need.

Using case studies from real-life programs developed in collaboration with Sententia Gamification for organizations ranging from top-tier universities to Fortune 100 companies, government agencies, and not-for-profits, Monica Cornetti, Founder and CEO at Sententia Gamification will explain how and why gamification works, in what context it’s most effective, and what the limits are to this approach of employee engagement in training and talent development.

Thursday, January 9, 2020, 9AM – 10AM PT: Context Matters — Quit Writing Questions and Design Elearning Experiences Instead
Elearning seems irretrievably bound by questioning and testing — often meaningless and almost always off-putting to the learner. This model is a relic of simplistic primitive models from the earliest days of programmed instruction and seems so standard that it’s hard to think any other approach is desirable or even possible.

This webinar, with Ethan Edwards, Chief Instructional Strategist at Allen Interactions, presents a model for building meaningful experiences to engage the learner in place of the standard “tell then test” approach to storyboarding and scripting of elearning. Among the important factors that establish purpose in an elearning interaction, context is the most fundamental and yet is often the most overlooked. You’ll explore several strategies to structure contextual learning and illustrate the power of these techniques with real-life examples that rely on strong context to enable rich-rewarding interactive experiences.

Tuesday, January 14, 2020, 9AM – 10AM PT: How to Develop Performance-Based Tests

You’ll see the checklists and rubrics used for the two certifications. Please join Judith Hale, President, Hale Associates, in this practical and insightful webinar to get a head start on your certification.

Wednesday, January 15, 2020, 11AM – 12PM PT: Three Keys to Getting Learners More Engaged (Free for ATD members)
While new, modernized learning strategies are discussed frequently, they fall by the wayside too often and are all for naught if we fail to properly integrate them into our learning programs. Tools like gamification, social learning, push notifications and digital badging are top of mind for effective learning engagement, but are they being applied effectively? In this session, Joe Miller, VP of Learning Design & Strategy at BenchPrep, will uncover the three keys to keeping learners engaged and show how to best incorporate them into your learning programs.

Wednesday, January 15, 2020, 12PM – 1PM PT: Fail Fast and Early
Building failure into the learning experience can help workers achieve positive solutions faster rather than finding the perfect answer.

In the increasingly complex VUCA (volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity) workplace, it’s almost impossible to control the multitude of variables and be able to respond more to customer matters in a timely manner. In the training world, there also needs to be a response by creating experiences where failure’s a component of the process, where conversations are facilitated around the culture of experimentation and acceptance, and developing support systems to continue the learning as employees perform their work. In this webinar, Ray Jimenez, Ph.D., Architect of TrainingMagNetwork.com, Chief Learning Officer at Vignettes Learning, and William J. Ryan, Ph.D., Principal Consultant at Ryan Consulting LLC, will:

  • Describe how the process of rapid iterative experimentation can create new learning pathways.

  • Explore three ways to moderate and facilitate conversations that support failing forward.

  • Examine how technology can support training and learning in the workplace.

Thursday, January 23, 2020, 10AM – 11AM PT: Mission Critical Content that Drives the Learning Experience
The majority of the focus for the modern learning experience has been on the delivery platform and not on the key ingredient — content. Even the most advanced learning platform cannot deliver critical content and knowledge that drives engagement, retention and business performance. While standard off-the-shelf learning content is important, many organizations find that custom learning content that’s unique to their organization often has the most impact.

Join David Wentworth, Principal Learning Analyst with Brandon Hall Group and Chris Tratar, Director of Product Marketing and Strategy at Inkling as they discuss future trends in learning and how companies are creating engaging, flexible, mission-critical content that meets the needs of the modern learner and drives business results.
