Sure, you can use the extensive list of tools on the market, but for those who want real power and complexity ala from the days of Authorware, pickings are slim. If you are an Authorware fanatic missing the old days, you are still going to miss it – because while these capabilities are being added to tools they are still not at the level of Authorware. Templates have been around for decades and often look like the ones you get with PowerPoint – which are lame. Audio Editing.

Anyone who used Authorware can attest to that. Have they ever used a storyboard? – While many people no longer use storyboarding, it is still a nice skill set to have, and think of it as an added bonus. PowerPoint is not an authoring tool. Microsoft did not create PowerPoint as an authoring tool.

Widgets are specially formatted Flash swf files that know how to communicate with the host Captivate project. These are very similar to Flash components and Authorware Knowledge Objects, in that developers are able to create pre-configured logic and visual components which accept parameters when inserted into Captivate.
