I continue to be a fan of Jane Hart ‘s work, and her annual survey of Top 10 Learning Tools is only one of the reasons (another being her co-conspirator, along with Harold Jarche & Charles Jennings in the Internet Time Alliance ). As a consequence, it’s time for my annual list, this time the Top 10 Learning Tools for 2022.

As readers of this blog will know, I released the Top 100 Tools for Learning 2014 list on Monday 22 September – a list that I compiled from the votes of over 1,000 learning professionals worldwide. But I am constantly being asked questions like “What is the best blogging tool?”

One of the features of Sakai that our team was looking for in a new LMS is a blogging tool. I admit some significant improvements in usability are possible in this tool. However, it does give us the option of blogging within the system. So how do you use a blog effectively when it’s housed within a walled garden?

Jane Hart is running her annual Top 100 Tools for Learning poll (you can vote too), and here’s my contribution for this year. LinkedIn is another tool I use to see what’s happening (and occasionally engage in). Skype let’s me stay in touch with my ITA colleagues, hence it’s definitely a learning tool.

The final list of top 100 tools for learning for 2010 is now out on Jane Hart’s website. I understand this list is more inclined towards tools that learning professionals use for their own learning as opposed to those used for creating learning programs or training sessions. A quick look at the top 10: Twitter – micro-updating tool.

This is the 5th year I have been building a Top 100 Tools for Learning list (based on the Top 10 Tools contributions of learning professionals worldwide), so I thought it would be interesting to compare my choices in the first year I ran the activity in 2007, with my choices today.

In a recent blog post, I gave seven reasons why teachers should blog. It was subsequently expanded to 10 good reasons by the contributions from readers - which is actually an eleventh reason why teachers should blog - you get back such great comments, suggestions, arguments and advice, it would be crazy not to share your content.

If I were to ask you what are the sharpest tools in your box, what would you say? Here are my 8 essential tools: 1) Twitter, because as I recently said in a YouTube video , it is immediate, social and personal. 4) Blogger, my blogging tool which hosts this blog and several more I run. So those are my top 8 tools.

This week is about blogging. I just think its time to take a look at blogging again since I, and others from what I hear, seem to be neglecting blogs, feed readers, etc, in favor of microblogging. I'm actually writing this blog post from Amplify.com which is an interesting hybrid tool. But that's not blogging.

It is different from a traditional blog in that it is exactly what the title infers – micro. There are a lot of tools that can be used for a backchannel, but one of the most popular is Twitter.

Jane Hart asked me to come up with a list of my top ten tools. I'm going to include IE7 under this heading, which is probably the tool I use the most after Outlook Ă¢â‚¬â€œ the improvements such as tabbed browsing mean that it has caught up with Firefox (sounds like some form of heresy). I use Office so much that it has to be on the list.

Part of my reservation is that it is yet another social networking tool and a blogging tool. It will take you a while to understand what you are doing and where you go to do what. Part of the issue is that there's not much content today so it feels a bit hollow. Do I need to use it in addition to Linked In and Blogger?
