They were comfortable connecting with me via LinkedIn and since it offers mutual value it was worth the effort. In Facebook, it's much the same.

I have to make sure that I get at least as much value from that 3-4 hours as I would from spending the same time using LinkedIn for Networking – and that's tough competition. I choose people with names that are a bit more unique so that it will be more likely to find them on LinkedIn. And 95% likely that we'll talk within a few days.
