In fact we've currently got more like 103,000 blogs, separated over four sites (63K on edublogs.org and 39K spread across the student sites). And that's just that one site's blogs. I guess this is probably enough to say that blogging has taken off as a tool for learning in educational environments.

Blog reading and writing as part of scanning has been a replacement of other activities that I used to do - reading magazines and books. Of course, a lot of blog posts you skip very quickly.

The most common models of blog discussions seem to have turned into a few patterns: Organic Blog Discussions - someone posts something interesting, lots of bloggers post on the topic, distributed discussion ensues. Blog Tag Memes - Someone posts a question and "Tags" five people to give their response.

About two months into it, I finally began to understand that the LCB was different than an individual blog because it was designed to serve a community. Both blogs serve the needs of their community. I wasn't able to go to the panel session at eLearningGuild, but there are a couple interesting posts on it and some debate around the purpose of these tools. I agree with Clive that this is part of the intent of rapid eLearning - pushing the tools to SMEs to allow them to easily create small information nuggets.

Either aggregate photos and blog entries, or set up a conference page on Hitchhikr and link to that. I've questioned before Conference Networking Tools - Do They Work? and the answer is that most of these tools are not very good. Establish and CLEARLY advertise conference tags for bloggers and photographers.

Someone posted a comment in my previous post on Course Authoring and Rapid eLearning Tool Satisfaction asking whether I had used RapideL. But when I looked back at my post, I realized that I had cut off quite a few authoring tools because I had only included reports where the number of evaluations was 15 or more. So where's RapideL?

Then I saw Bill Ives Is Blogging Inside the Firewall an Oxymoron? where he talks about some of the issues with blogs within the enterprise and ends with: Wikis seem to have less baggage attached to them and that might partially (and only partially) explain their recent rise in use within the enterprise. You can see what it thinks are mine in the right column of the blog. I've not quite figured out how to take a very large list of blogs, e.g., all edublogs, and have it filter those down. It provides a widget that allows you to show your top posts for month or year. It imports OPML, but the interface didn't seem intuitive.
