The report's main point is that reading as a whole and reading of books has gone up: One of the researchers, at Manchester's school of social sciences, Dale Southerton, said there was a popular perception that people were reading less but all reading had gone up, reading books had gone up the most - and there were 17% more people reading them.

Immersing myself in a book or a lengthy article used to be easy. They typically read no more than one or two pages of an article or book before they would "bounce" out to another site. My mind isn't going-so far as I can tell-but it's changing. I'm not thinking the way I used to think. I can feel it most strongly when I'm reading.

For a person who I generally think is pretty smart Thomas Davenport (his book Thinking for a Living is generally quite good), I find him saying some pretty weak things. In his book he tells us basically that blogs have detracted from productivity, not increased it. If you are just browsing around, you will be disappointed.

It also does some interesting things: Allows users to categorize flash cards, mark them as being associated with particular text books, and then helps with the sharing of content. FlashCard Friends does a lot of what you'd expect in terms of creating Flash Cards for students. It's well designed and very easy to use.
