Admittedly, I never had the pleasure or displeasure of sampling her menus, so I cant say if this method worked for her, but Ive found it works for me in the kitchen. I recommend having a motivating example before you bother showing learners the things theyll be able to do afterwards; if they dont understand why its important, they wont care what they can do. Belatedly, Im thinking that there are relatively easy ways to enable learners to have cake or to eat it as they see fit.

Im concerned that women will be excluded if such a focus is put on gaming skills -- or at least the gamer label. Im just raising some questions. I guess Im saying the focus should be less on "gaming" and more on use of new technology (social networking sites, gadgets, etc.) I dont have a conclusion here. Its all really muddy.

A key discovery most people make when learning about styles, whether its learning styles, DISC or MBTI, is that people may be different from they way they are in the way they take in and process information. Im a Word power-user and love all the little tricks and shortcuts. All of my project information is in one place. I agree that it will be a process of Conversion by Example. Im trying to advise a client but I have little to no experience in this area. So the vendor can closely track actual usage and charge based on that actual usage? Im not sure if the SME was reading a script, reading the notes, or just speaking from the heart. My argument is that if the information is presented as 'real' conversation it is more believable, more engaging and ultimately more effective. Look at games like Mass Effect 2 as a perfect example. So thats one version.

The old theory: Up until now, Ive gone along with that concept of learning styles , which the books authors tell me is based on the information delivery theory. So when designing a program with different learning styles in mind, one presents information in multiple formats: both as onscreen text and audio along with an illustrative graphic.

There are great tools with a short learning curve (for example, Adobe Captivate and Articulate Presenter) and tools with a longer learning curve that are really excellent (for example, Lectora, and Flashform). There seems to be a mix between contract and full time positions, and Im not sure how to read into that.

For example, at the recent eLearning Producers Conference in Boston, I sat through a one-hour discussion about simulations and another one on gaming in training. We didnt see any simulations or games, nor did we experience any (we didnt even see screen shots of examples). However, we often squander these opportunities.
