In India, most courses have no audio but I suspect this has more to do with costs rather than learners preferences. This applies particularly where text and sound are likely to be used (notably the studies on PowerPoint and speech). Sadly to say, by comparison, I believe we're becoming lazy learners. Heres what I recall: They created a set of powerpoint slides. Something like 60-70% of the learners preferred the rough version, created by the expert. And create content that learners will trust. Respect the learner (time, intelligence, etc.) For now, this is all heresay. They had the SME record the audio for the slides.

This manufacturing process training course was originally delivered as a four hour plus death-by-PowerPoint classroom session (if you could see the original PPT source content, youd begin glazing over within a few slides).
