Build a stronger team, faster: Employee onboarding best practices

Most rapid-growth technology companies have simply neglected to implement an efficient strategy for onboarding new hires, despite the obvious need.

A new publication from Docebo explores why most companies don’t have an onboarding strategy, and outlines some critical first steps toward building a solid plan that incorporates a versatile learning managment system (LMS) to support experiential learning.

“Onboarding at the Speed of Growth” explores why it’s so important to extend employee onboarding best practices into learning and development, and to use technology to support new recruits in their critical first months (and beyond).According to research from Brandon Hall Group, a top concern for human resource managers is the challenge of engaging and retaining the workforce. Recruiting the best employees, developing leaders (and managing skill gaps) are also priorities for these HR professionals, so it’s clear that, for most companies (particularly in the high-tech sector) onboarding is critical to human success.

Ramp up new hires too slowly, and you lose out on productivity. Overwhelm your new recruits with too much information too soon, however, and the risk of training missteps (and, as the report mentions, the risk of turnover) is measurably higher.

That’s why it’s important to extend employee onboarding best practices into learning and development and experiential learning to boost engagement and, in turn, increase knowledge retention for a longer, happier employment relationship for everyone.
