mlearningappMobile learning is starting to become the standard in educational settings given its flexibility and ease of use. It should come as no surprise then that each year there are more and more school districts encouraging their staff to “go mobile”.

In case you ever had any doubts about the growing trend of mobile learning, all you need to do is look around to see that it is growing in every facet of life, with ultra-popular MOOC services leading the charge.

If you’re still not convinced, here are some more random mobile learning facts:

  1. This year, 56% of schools and libraries are expected to go transition to digital textbooks
  2. 45% of schools and libraries plan to expand use of mobile devices
  3. 73% of teachers access digital content from their handheld mobile device
  4. More than 1/3 of teachers said they used a tablet or ereader in the classroom
  5. 100% of K-12 students will use mobile devices for education by 2016
  6. 25% of 6th graders use ereading devices
  7. 74% of parents identified access to curriculum materials and online textbooks for use at home as important factors to assist in their child’s success at school

Mobile learning use will only continue to spread as the devices used to access them become more available.

This being the case, it is imperative that the platforms in use are mobile responsive. Unfortunately there are many learning management systems today that still won’t conform to a device’s screen.

These learning management systems need to change or will quickly become obsolete, especially when you consider that by 2017 it is expected that 2 billion people will have access to the internet via a mobile device.

If you are in the market for a learning management system, your first priority should be to ensure that it can be accessed across any mobile device.
