Mobile Learning Stats You Should Know

Mobile learning is driving the growth of the elearning industry. It makes sense when you think about it. We are constantly connected via our smartphones. It means we can take learning “on the go”. No longer are we confined to a laptop for online training.

The U.S. mobile learning market is expected to reach around $2.1 billion in just two years.

The reason for mobile learning’s popularity is clearly device driven, but also due to the massive app market. There are plenty of education oriented apps being released to help learners of all ages. Some focus on children while others are adult-centered.

Mobile learning will grow in the coming years as well. Stats aside, I know this to be true just by watching my nephew (who is five years old) navigate a smartphone with an insane amount of ease. Couple this with the fact that millennials will make up 50% of the workforce by 2020 and you can see why mobile learning is poised to be the industry standard for digital learning experiences for years to come.

With the rise in mobile learning we will see a shift in how course content is delivered. Micro-content is on the rise, shifting the way course content is delivered.

If you have an online course, you would do well to start creating your content with a micro-approach in mind – especially if your learners are primarily accessing your content through mobile devices.

Start simple. If you have video content then keep the videos to eight minutes or less with a single objective. There are more advanced strategies but this is a good place to begin.
