Creating a course can be a lonely adventure. Much of the time you are heads-down doing research, verifying content, developing simulations, incorporating gamification, and taking care of many other tasks.

If you are starting a business selling this course then there is also work to be done marking and networking your business.

As you go about creating your course you will come across a variety of different challenges, but the truth is you are not alone. In fact, chances are there are a good number of other people out there going through similar difficulties.

Articulate, the rapid e-learning development software provider, recently released some results from a survey they conducted with instructional designers. In it they share common learning development challenges as well as what you can do about them.

While we are on the subject of Articulate, make sure to check out their entire new business model. In addition to the new pricing structure, they have included some pretty cool tools to help you create impactful elearning.

I can personally relate to the issue of partnering with SMEs (subject matter experts).

I recall consulting for a very large client where I needed to meet with SMEs and obtain sign-off on the created content before we could move forward. It was nearly impossible to sync up our schedules.

Truth be told, SMEs can be a serious roadblock. It helps to have a good general profile for your SMEs so you know the best way to work with them.

Chances are you can relate to one of the challenges outlined in the graphic as well. Remember though, whenever you encounter a challenge then chances are someone before you has experienced the same.

Join some elearning related communities and reach out to others. You may be surprised at how willing people are to provide you with guidance.
