For those wondering, Adobe Captivate Prime, does not come with Captivate nor is Captivate in the cloud. It is Adobe’s LMS, and slick marketing utilizing the Captivate name in it. . Adobe Captivate – Very robust and at times, confusing to use. Lastly, why is Articulate and Adobe still on the desktop?

Camstudio – The closest system you can come to that is similar to Camtasia & some people say Captivate. Wink - I have mentioned them before because plenty of people feel that this is close to Captivate. Easier to learn and use than Camtasia’s audio, and u can use it for audio for ur Articulate, Captivate, etc.

Long has tools such as Studio and Captivate been on the higher side, the same can be said for vendors such as Rapid Intake and dominKnow. Captivate 6 – $899 (per license), you want the full e-learning suite? Fear #1 – Evil Clown Pricing. Just in the past two years the per license cost of authoring tools has skyrocketed.

If I was an Instructional Designer and I was choosing between Storyline or Captivate, I’d go Storyline. Captivate is so yesterday. I don’t like that it can be cumbersome to use, the UI/UX is challenging IMO for some folks, the newbies more so. Sure you can do less, but if you are getting this thing, why go basic?

Captivate – Overrated in my book. In fact, most folks have no idea that there are other authoring tools out there beyond Articulate, Captivate and Camtasia. . The next version of Studio shows promise, but the current version is the same ol same. . Listen its a nice product, but IMO there are ones better.

Consumers please be aware that a built-in authoring tool will not match a 3rd party authoring tool such as Storyline 360, Captivate, Flow, etc. It won’t be at the level nor amount compared to mid 2000s (in relative to the number of vendors), but it still will be strong. . There are a few vendors who offer the ability to accept other authoring tool built courses, such as those from Articulate/Captivate, beyond just their own authoring tool. . Even with just content only – like PPT or video files. Some include the capability for asset repositories, such as a RLO area. This however is not universal.
