Button States already existed in 8, but were defined in another way than in more recent versions. With the appearance of mutlistate objects, the Object Style manager was refurbished.

It may be possible, especially if it is a simsple non-responsive project. However, do not expect to have everything working as expected. You’ll need a lot of testing to do. Worth trying however. Lot has changed and features been added between those two versions.
