True we were restricted to distributing on PCs via the offline medium of a laserdisc, but the creative product was almost identical.

So what actually is learning content?

Ten years ago, all we had, at least as far as workplace e-learning was concerned, was interactive tutorials, very closely resembling the computer-based training materials that we had previously experienced on CD-ROM and videodisc. Is this formal content with high production values, or is it just 'good enough' and rapidly-produced?

Adobe professional design products are incredibly sexy, but not for the feint-hearted. You can't just feel your way around these products and some sort of structured education really pays off. The book sits underneath my monitor and I complete the exercises using the illustrations supplied on the accompanying CD-ROM.

I was introduced to the dubious joys of computing back in 1980, by a video engineer that I had employed to set up and run a production studio within the training department for which I was responsible. But by the late 1980s, CD-ROM had taken the place of videodisc, media went digital, and they took our video away.
