Many of the traditional screen sharing applications and services grew out of the need to transition face-to-face sales or training presentations to virtual meetings, and thereby save travel time and money.

In Harry Potter movies, Severus Snape’s classroom has a perfect mix of very traditional teacher-pupil relationship, coupled with experiential learning, where Snape is in complete control of the student’s behaviour, presenting an opportunity for the young wizards to mix ingredients and create potions.

Rachel Vazquez and Pete Mitchell (alum) presented on how they used video in e-learning and how they had to convert video to an e-learning format. Captured content via Centra, sent playback to vendor to transcribe and converted it into a minute script in aCNN-type presentation for delivery via an iPod.

Virtual Classrooms are Really Boring We've all multi-tasked while attending a WebEx, Centra Session or an Adobe Connect presentation. You could have a presenter at one location, presenting, asking and answering questions, and being seen by others in real-time (with low to no latency), anywhere else in the world. Centra, was available in the EdTech space in the late 90’s. I was immediately impressed, but well aware that it was very early.

If you've done webinars, you know that they are different to design and deliver successfully than other kinds of presentations and training. In addition to the four they list, I've personally had experience with GoToMeeting and GoToWebinar, Elluminate, Centra and Interwise. I've run into a few technical issues with Interwise before.
