I believe that this all stems from elearning’s roots being in Microsoft PowerPoint – slides and bullet points can be pretty dull. It also beats going through the course slide-by-slide reading bullet points that are accompanied by Clipart. I know this to be true, as I have take plenty of boring elearning courses.

On the other end of the spectrum, we also didn’t want the unprofessional feel of using mismatched clipart. In my opinion, it matters less what style of image (realistic photos, clipart, etc) and more that the themes match throughout your course. For example, if you’re going to use clipart, that’s fine, but use the same style.

In the past it wasn’t uncommon for an elearning module to simply have some generic text in a PowerPoint-type format. If you were lucky there would be some Clipart included as well. Well, gone are those days (and same with Clipart , if you didn’t know). Use relevant examples and scenarios.

Here’s a simple solution, you can compress your images in PowerPoint. They don’t show up when you publish, but they’re always available in the PowerPoint file.
