Due to the “internet of things,” Microsoft Office decided to kill off their Clipart library in December 2014. The Clipart library has been available within the PowerPoint and MS Word programs since the mid-1990s. From what we can tell, the main reasons for this move by Microsoft is three-fold.

It’s likely that you’ve used Microsoft PowerPoint at least a few times. I’m betting that you have seen your fair share of presentations containing too many slides packed with as much text and clipart as possible. Learners either need to have PowerPoint installed on their computers or download the PowerPoint player from Microsoft.

Every year they are adding new features, which is great, but at the same time these new features are all built upon the same foundation – and in many cases this foundation is Microsoft PowerPoint. Funny enough, it seems like most elearning courses can be traced back to PowerPoint in some capacity. You know what I mean: Linear.

Removing Stock Image Backgrounds If you have Microsoft Office 2010, you can use the new Background Removal feature found in PowerPoint, Word and Outlook to remove backgrounds easily. In the infancy of this industry it was not uncommon to sit through elearning modules that consisted entirely of Microsoft PowerPoint slides and perhaps some Clipart sprinkled throughout. Today’s elearning courses look nothing like they used to back when elearning first started to grow in popularity. That was it.
