They also included recommendations on how to structure a small coaching session, activities for users etc.
The first project i handled was quite a complex one – supporting the rollout of a new system to users across The Netherlands. We produced 10 e-learning modules in 2 languages, support documentation, trainer packs, and an updated e-campus site in under 2 months !

We need to move to less formal training and to more on demand learning, assets, e-coaching, online learning in smaller chunks, more data driven decisions, evaluation – learning professionals need to understand this, appropriately fear it.
* I was on a train trip to Den Haag yesterday and remembered I had a few podcasts on my ipod I hadn’t got around to listening – one of them was an interview with Alisson Rosset, Prof of Ed Tech at San Diego State University :

So they taught supervisors to break down jobs into closely defined steps, show the procedures while explaining the key points and the reasons for the key points, then watch the student attempt under close coaching, and finally to gradually wean the student from the coaching. As Instructional Designers, its always a challenge to balance meaningful instruction with information. Cathy Moore's action mapping framework is a great way to create lively elearning that allows you to include just the right amount of information in your elearning course.

In preparing for an upcoming series of workshops, I think I’ve landed on another important ingredient… a learning coach. We can coach ourselves, of course, but many of us benefit greatly from having someone to support our learning.
This might involve going to the bookstore (okay, maybe I’m the only geek who does that, but still, it’s a strategy), finding a colleague who can teach or coach on the subject, doing an internet Looking back over recent posts, it starts to become clearer to me what is needed for an informal learning strategy to be effective in the workplace.

The role of the lecturer coaching ‘Critical Thinking’ is to: Teach the fundamental thinking, reasoning and language abilities that a student needs for academic success.
