And that could be a result of many factors, including lack of engagement, insufficient planning, resources, and time. An unsuccessful employee onboarding process could result in employees having to take more time to become more productive at an organization.

Also, it could lead to a high turnover rate in an organization. To have an effective employee onboarding process, organizations must endure certain things while planning. An employee onboarding process is a process that helps to get new hires up to speed and make them more productive in an organization. It’s the first impression that new hires have an organization aside from the recruitment process.

So, to make a good first impression, there’s a need for every organization to take time and put in effort in their employee onboarding process.

1. Have a good plan in place

To have an effective employee onboarding process, your organization must endure certain things. Put a better plan in place, and that requires creating tasks for the new hires as soon as they accept your job offers.

These tasks should enable new employees to get familiar with everything about your company, including its culture and tasks. It’s advisable to have a task management platform in place to help you assign deadlines to each task created.

It’s also essential that you create quizzes at the end of each task to help you identify employees’ strengths and weaknesses.

2. Make your employee onboarding a team effort

I’m sure you’ll agree with me that peer collaboration has a positive effect on the productivity level of employees in an organization. So, focusing your employee onboarding on a collaborative process will go a long way in helping you achieve success.

One way to make that work out is by introducing new hires to their managers and other members of the organization that they need to interact with over time. Also, there’s a need to assign each new hire a mentor to help guide them and give answers to any unclear matters.

3. Assign responsibility from day one

Without a doubt, most people tend to flourish when assigned responsibility. So, charge your new hires to meet with other members of the company for guides and to complete self-guided tasks within a specific deadline.

4. Train new hires on soft skills and company’s culture

Although most onboarding training topics vary from organization to organization, there are still a few that are common to all. These include technical training, job processes, and procedures, and compliance training.

While these topics can be boring, there’s still a need to give specific and engaging training on them to help your employees become better.

5. Utilize the right onboarding software

While paper-based onboarding manuals are better for classroom training onboarding programs, you can employ onboarding software for better results.

So, ensure you opt for software that meets your onboarding training needs. Some of the features that can bring life to your onboarding program include automatic assessment and gamification.

So, ensure you opt for software that offers these features and the ability to track their progress during the process.

6. Avoid rushing onboarding

To have an effective and successful onboarding, you need to avoid rushing the process. That’s because the onboarding process is a deeper and much longer process that needs adequate planning to help employees become more productive.

It should also help new employees learn how to become team players and how to perform their roles adeptly.

So, you need not rush through your onboarding process. Ensure you put in a lot of time as new employees will need it to understand your organization’s culture.

7. Avoid offering one-way feedback

For an effective onboarding process, avoid offering one-sided feedback. While employees need feedback from their managers, organizations also need feedback from them to help improve the company’s onboarding process.

So, ensure you ask them how they feel about the onboarding process compared to their past jobs. As such, you can be able to put in more effort to have an effective employee onboarding process.
