The annual migration of the L&D tech crowd to Las Vegas for the eLearning Guild’s fabulous DevLearn conference has begun. We’ll be showing off a great project with a focus on Totara and Adapt, both open source tools. In fact, I’m writing and posting this update from somewhere high above the country thanks to free inflight WiFi!

I’ve been attending eLearning Guild conferences since the community of practice’s inception around 2008. 2016 marks the first year where booths of Totara Partners and Moodle Partners dominated (I counted at least eight). It has been fun watching company name changes and the growth of companies serving this nascent industry.

Here is my report from World of Learning Conference (where I was presenting in Birmingham, UK). World of Learning Conference continues to deliver winning results. Why LMS vendors and authoring tool ones for that matter, do not come in droves to this conference is mystifying to me. . Totara business partners. Bottom Line.

Anyway, as many of you are probably aware the biggest training conference in North America, takes place May 4-7th, albeit most humans start off on May 5th. Totara - Totara is in both reports as a Top 25 vendor. For me, I use the business partner in Washington as my POC (point of contact) when I have clients that use Totara.

As with any e-learning conference and event, the show wasn’t 100% awesome, that is to say, it had some areas for improvement, but overall I give it was quite strong. I am not certain, but I believe LTUK identifies an attendee as someone who paid for the entire conference or at least part of the conference. E-Learning 24/7.

Totara – They are now pushing heavy into the direct to buyer mode, rather than thru partners (although they still go this route outside of the states). Most folks think Moodle means Totara, but oh, no, you do not need to pick only them, rather Learning Pool or eThink. If Workspace isn’t your route, and Moodle in general is.
