I had the privilege of participating in a panel discussion titled “ Workforce Development That Works. ” The panel was hosted by Nathan Blaine, Executive Director at Corporate Executive Board, and included David Blake, CEO of Degreed, Stephen Bailey, CEO of ExecOnline, Sang Yoon, Head of Learning Strategy & Curriculum at Google, and myself as panelists. It was a fascinating discussion covering a wide range of topics around the future of corporate learning and skills development.

It is with this in mind that I have started thinking about a model – or perhaps more accurately, a framework – for content curation. As a framework for content curation, however, I feel the heuristic doesn’t go far enough. While related to the subject matter, this content need not be “educational” in the traditional sense. At last week’s Learning @ Work conference in Sydney, Clark Quinn declared: Curation trumps creation. However I’d like to explicate his implied caveat: …if good content is available. We can learn anything online. Anyone who’s spent 5 minutes in an organisational setting appreciates how difficult it can be to source relevant, actionable content.
