We relied on one another, as strong and weak tie neighbours, often congregating in these buildings to share, to socialize, and to learn. My personal learning cycle is fed by my own needs first and foremost. | CLIVE ON LEARNING AUGUST 5, 2010 So what actually is learning content? Today I sat down, just as I did ten years ago, to write a set of checklists and standards for digital learning content as applied to the workplace. While this was, for me at least, a worthwhile and rewarding experience, and will hopefully be of value when released sometime soon to content developers and purchasers of off-the-shelf content, the process was enormously complicated by the changes that have taken place in the scope and application of digital learning content. Unfortunately, most attempts to train l&d professionals in the design and development of digital learning materials begin and ends with the assumption that the end result will be a self-contained tutorial. KAPP NOTES | WEDNESDAY, MAY 18, 2011 What the Gamificaiton of Learning and Instruction is Not There are many misconceptions about the gamification of learning and instruction, here are some things that gamification is not. Trivialization of Learning —Gamification is not a cheapening or dilution of “real learning.” Serious learning scenarios are undertaken within game spaces all the time from military games, to sales incentives, to practicing medical procedures or preparing for standardized tests gamified learning can, and is, difficult, challenging and stressful.
