Why is gamification so important to your corporate training?

Gamification, a "simple concept", is one of the learning techniques you can use to achieve big results.
Why is gamification so important to your corporate training?

Speaking of engaging gaming elements, they include visual design, story, competition, challenge, reward, and feedback. Earlier, in one of our posts, we mentioned the effective strategies you can employ to introduce gamification in your corporate training.

However, for the sake of this post, we’ll only be focusing our attention on the importance of gamification to your corporate training. So, without wasting time, let’s dive right in.

Why should you consider gamification for your corporate training?

There are many reasons why you need to consider using gamification for your corporate training. Although we won’t be able to mention every one of them in this post, here are five compelling reasons why you should try the learning technique, below.

1- Increases learner engagement

One of the reasons why you should consider gamification for your corporate training is because it helps to increase employee engagement, which in turn improves the learning experience.

Most employees tend to get bored when training is not engaging enough. However, by presenting such training in the form of games, you can easily boost your learners’ engagement level.

There are many ways you can use gamification to enhance the engagement level of your employee. One of them is by using relevant game mechanics and elements.

Together with the aforementioned gaming elements, other game mechanics that you can use include leaderboards, levels, countdowns, points, journey, relationship, loss aversion, badges, narrative, and many more. However, before using any of them, ensure that you fully understand their purpose.

2- Increases knowledge retention

Another reason why gamification is so important for your corporate training is that it helps to increase knowledge retention. In case you don’t know, offering your learners gamified corporate training will help them to quickly and easily recall information.

Furthermore, according to a study by Professor Traci Sitzmann, by playing video games, one stands a chance of achieving a 14% higher skill-based knowledge level and a 9% higher retention rate than other people.

This confirms why it’s very important for you to consider gamification for your corporate training. Also, one of the factors that hinder learners from enjoying the learning process is stress.

When your learners don’t enjoy the learning process, it’ll be very difficult for them to retain knowledge. Interestingly, according to a study at Texas A&M International University, offering gameplay is an effective solution to reduce the stress of the employees.

3- Results in behavioral change

Gamification is also important for your corporate training because it brings about behavioral changes. But here’s a burning question, what do behavioral changes mean in this context?

It’s simply a process, in which learners abandon their undesired behavior, taking on a better one. Of course, gamification of corporate training is one way to make that happen.

However, for you to make this happen, you’ll need to first research your target audience. Doing this will help you to know their undesired behaviors, what motivates them, and what you need to bring out the desired behavior in them.

After that, you can go ahead and create your gamified corporate training, using the right game mechanics and game elements. For better results, you should make use of a mix of intrinsic and extrinsic motivators, such as monetary rewards.

4- Encourages fail and learn

According to a popular saying, “to try and fail is at least to learn; to fail to try is to suffer the inestimable loss of what might have been“.

Gamification of corporate training will provide your learners with the ability to fail and learn from it.

Interestingly, this is going to be in a virtual environment, meaning that no damage will be done in real life. Gamification of corporate training is so important for many organizations, an example is the heavy machinery industries.

These industries are known to be at high risks of threats and hazards. Therefore, one way that these companies can employ to train their new workers is by gratifying their corporate training.

5- Provides instant feedback and hints

Unlike other learning techniques, gamification of your corporate training will help you to provide instant feedback and hints. One of the benefits of that is it helps your learners to understand where they’re failing, providing them with hints on how to pass the level and progress to another one.

Another benefit of instant feedback is that it lets the learners understand the consequences of their choices and actions if it happens in real life.
