As I mentioned in my last post , yes, I’ll be running a course on mobile learning. And I can understand if you’re thinking “a mlearning course?” So doing the course with the Allen Academy ensured that I could trust the integrity of what we’d do. And, of course, the content is relevant.

Before the Course

It appears that, too often, people are building courses when they don’t need to (or, more importantly, shouldn’t ). I realize that there are pressures to make a course when one is requested, including expectations and familiarity, but really, you should be doing some initial thinking about what makes sense.

A placebo effect?

Of course, the role is different here; the placebo makes the doctor feel better! (Or I’m muddling my metaphor…:) It may not be that in practice, of course. There is a ‘faith’ that “if we build it, it is good” So, biz units can ask for a course, and get one. Or the health system?

Two steps for L&D

Badly, of course, but we were looking at why. It’s not enough, of course. You might throw courses at things where they don’t make sense, e.g. where performance support would work better. The second thing I argue we should do is start looking at going beyond courses. Another was that they don’t measure.
