Focusing on Objectives with Abstraction in Gamification

Our concept was to turn the experience into a travel adventure, taking learners from stop to stop, integrating challenges with time for participants to get to know each other. For another project, we created a subway map game to teach learners how to set up their computers. For a simulation on project management, for example, we created a realistic representation of the learner’s desktop, including email, IM, and resource libraries —tools utilized frequently on the job. Should your learning game be highly realistic or completely abstracted from reality? Paris?

The report concludes that Amplify failed to win sales and acceptance because: The Intel tablet based solution did not integrate well with Google and Apple and this was an issue because students preferred to bring their own devices to school. Integration with the information systems of districts was a pain. Instead, integration is power. Microsoft understood this when they created the Office suite – users want ease of functionality across different tools. Facebook currently understands this better than any other tech company, as evidenced by their announcement today of Facebook Messages – basically, an integrated platform for email/IM/FB messages. Instead of having to contact a person via email, or IM, or Facebook, Messages emphasizes connecting directly to a person. With Messages, FB serves the role of integrating media and message.

Specifically, vocabularies such as those embedded in NewsML-G2, EDIFACT and ANSI X12 echoed a need to standardize data exchange across a wide range of industries, giving an integrated technology platform for transacting business documents across the supply chain. In education, AICC and SCORM (and IMS QTI – Question Test Interoperability) standards set the vocabulary to be adopted for communication between a course (and assessment) and the Learning Management System. Before social media happened to us, there were vocabularies such as the ones encountered in the Semantic Web. lak1

Q&A - eLearning Standards Especially SCORM
SEPTEMBER 5, 2006
But, I'm going to try to make a practice of creating blog posts around some of the questions. More than that is most often not expected and can cause you integration problems. There are a bunch of other standards by ADL (who is responsible for SCORM ), IMS , IEEE LTSC including CORDRAâ„¢ , LOM , Meta-data , etc. Note: ARIADNE, AICC, IEEE LTSC, and IMS all participate in ADL's work on SCORM). The chart on cost of content integration before SCORM and with SCORM is very interesting. That's great! like getting interesting questions. What about other Standards?
