We’ve recently seen LMSs shift to include more functionality, such as wikis, blogs, social networking, etc. If I want a great wiki platform, I’m going to download MediaWiki or DokuWiki (also free and they have huge support communities). They complain that their LMS has a terrible interface that is nearly unusable.

Friday, July 06, 2007 I Heart My Wiki I have finally thrown myself into the wiki waters. Last week my chances of getting a Wiki installed behind the firewall were looking terrible. actually refocused on hosted solutions because the notion of installing MediaWiki behind the firewall was shot out of the water at first. The ILT classes will conclude by introducing the learners to a job aid in the form of a Wiki. Rather than developing a standard technical manual with detailed instructions I have created a Wiki using MediaWiki. The Wiki is packed with step by step instructions covering everything in the system.

Introduction to Social Media --This webinar and wiki resource page gives an overview of key social media tools and how they are being used in workforce development and with young people, especially around school and careers. Beth Kanter's listening literacy wiki was a great resource for this, too. certain irony in that, I suppose, too.

For details on how to create a podcast, see How to Create Your Own Podcast on About.com. The forward thinking folks at Dimdim created an application that is completely in the cloud. Users can create and join groups, connect with friends, display a profile, blog and microblog (similar to Twitter). Category: Wikis.

The learning industry has spent much time and effort creating systems that allow developers to create eLearning "courses" that can be "taken" OFFLINE and then critical evaluation information is transferred back to the LMS when the system is back ONLINE. Now you can take that corporate wiki with you on your harddrive. Cool right?
