In my previous post I wrote that even though research shows lectures to be less than effective in helping students to learn, they still persist in higher education. The key question is: What can replace the lecture? Worse still, they may decide not to attend lectures at all. There is no point simply talking at them for an hour.

Actually, all of these questions are boring, because the comet is akin to certain lessons in school and university, where the teachers/lecturers annually repeat themselves word for word, or worse, simply read out the text from their boring slides. Knowledge is always changing , evolving, but the lessons stay the same.

This was mentioned recently by a headteacher of a school in England, who argued that schools are too risk averse today, and we need to inject some excitement back into lessons. Ask them when the fun times happened, and most of them will recollect them occurring outside of formal lesson time. Secondly, make lessons fun.
