A few highlights: The demo I saw was running on a Mac, so that's a plus for me. It exports to HTML 5 as well as Flash, although I'm not sure they've perfected this yet. This is a big deal, because iPads and iPhones don't support Flash. Anyone who wanted to do top-end development had to do serious coding in Flash.

I had an online demo of Rapid Intake's new online authoring tool Unison , and I must admit I was impressed. Unison is created in Adobe Flex, with an attractive Flash interface. Users can build their own templates using Flash and XML and share them with the authoring community. Unison has the flavour of a web 2.0

Wink , the free software capture/demo tool. At the same time, over the past month, I have had to shell out mucho dollars for: Adobe Flash 8 upgrade. Adobe Captivate, for screen capture/demos, rather like Wink. Articulate, for PowerPoint to Flash, quizzes and interactions. Audacity , the free audio editor.

While it does carry out its IT tasks much more elegantly and flexibly than ever before, the tool is now truly multi-purpose and high-end (particularly given its integration with Flash, Photoshop and Soundbooth). So, is Adobe's ELS worth $1799?
