They had it early on, and it continues to improve – i.e. the entire system that is, not just the LXP, which is there, does a good job, but the system is designed to go way beyond that. The best Learning Platform with a legit LXP in it is probably Juno Journey. The second who does a solid job and is within an LMS, is Bealink.

Old-school LMS companies (like SumTotal , Plateau , Learn.com , GeoLearning and Certpoint ) were acquired by much larger talent and HR-suite providers like SAP/SuccessFactors , Infor , Oracle and IBM. I think informal/formal was designed and suited for ILT, not e-learning, because from the days of Corporate in 2000, you could do informal with your LMS. And in 2002, many more – I used Geolearning – it offered lots of informal options. They didn’t sell them – it was customized designed for them.

The interface you showed was similar in many ways to the old GeoLearning 3D look back in 2002 (which Geo eventually dumped – too bad). The product comes in two flavors – a simple and a more robust. I focused on the more robust.

WBT design concept was simple – allow people to choose what they want to learn, whenever and wherever. One of my favorite early vendors was GeoLearning. If you wanted assigned learning, yes, they offered that, but nobody was forced to select only that option. If you wanted self-paced learning, congrats they offered it as well.

On the Maestro side (formally GeoLearning), I don’t understand how they could have dropped the ball on the platform. There are a lot of e-learning developers and instructional designers who either used Authorware or want an authoring tool that meets their needs – and which does not exist in today’s market.
