This is a good example of a fairly simple, light-weight tool to analyze social interactions in an LMS like Moodle, Blackboard, or Desire2Learn. The process is simple: install a simple bookmarklet in your browser, go to your LMS, select the discussion forum that you want to analyze, and then activate the SNAPP plugin.

This will, of course, only push adoption of Moodle (and possibly Desire2Learn). University of Manitoba, during a recent LMS review, selected Angel as its new learning management system. In talking with faculty and others attending presentations by various LMS vendors, a clear “anything but Blackboard view was evident.

In 2005 it bought out WebCT and has more recently sued Desire2Learn for copyright violation. haven’t used Blackboard in two years since I switched to a school that uses Moodle instead. That’s not to imply that Moodle is perfect, but it has some definite advantages over Blackboard. haven’t missed it, either.
