This was back in 2006 and I remember a lot of folks did not understand the value of converting content to SCORM because it seemed so outdated and there were much more current development projects that needed to get done. Of course LMS vendors want you to develop content in their system because they don't want you to ever leave.ever!

To lower the cost of delivery I want a faster turn-a-round on development time, I want it simple to test, and I want to reuse my work as a template for other projects. I would prefer to let Saba handle the popup and sizing of the code to save on my development time. I want them to easily navigate the course files. I don’t know.

But you still can not fully customize the look and feel of a teamsite without additional development work. However, it does require an experienced web developer. Depending on the complexity of the project built-in customizations can certainly improve the usability. You can add in content, remove unnecessary links, and more.

I used a combination of in house custom developed content and 3rd party content. The courses developed in house were based on simulations and interactions. This was the company's first attempt at self-paced online training. Courses were served entirely online and learner results were tracked.

Lectora allows developers to take a snippet of code and reuse it on all your pages. I've been using Lectora for almost three years now. This saves time and maintenance costs. You may want that code to work differently on some of the pages. Ideally, you'd still only have that code in one place but set up an exception for how to do this.

A thought hit me while reading the book that maybe I've given too much attention to the storyboard in my course development process. Because of this, I think I'll go back to the development process I'm writing and give more attention to the learning objectives than to the storyboard.

Since delving into learning content development a few years ago, I've been continually impressed with Microsoft PowerPoint's capabilities. But I do e-learning development and the tool I am using most often these days is Adobe Captivate. I've even seen developers take screen videos of PowerPoint animations.

In fact I understand they are currently in development of the next version of Studio. Output to iOS and HTML5 will be a part of it, although some challenges remain to make it do everything Flash can do (that seemed to be common with all e-learning products I saw demoed). This product will not be replacing the Articulate Studio.

There are a lot of creative content developers out there looking for tools to express themselves to their fullest. The difference is between listening to features that the community wants and listening to what the community wants to do. I think Articulate is focused on the latter while many companies focus on the former.

Another process I had to reboot recently was a content development tool that just wasn't working. With a little bit of research I was able to find a content development tool (Articulate) that was on the opposite end of the spectrum and would save the training developers here hours of work per project.
