Development Tools - Should I Cut Out the Middle Guy?

It has gotten to a point where some of my courses are all developed in Flash and the e-learning authoring tools (DHTML) have been used more as a "shell" that decompiles it as a SCORM package. So, do I really need to continue using these authoring tools?

My Top 10 e-Learning Tools

DHTML authoring tool - My preference is OutStart Trainer (TrainerSoft). Notepad - Editing XML, which is extremely useful in working with DHTML courses and sometimes Flash courses. Adobe Captivate - Fantastic for creating simulations (software sims and branching sims), plus it does a good job recording audio for your sims.

ToolBook authoring tool - this is the DHTML authoring tool used at my company, but prior to this I used TrainerSoft (now Outstart Trainer), which is my preference. It is a glimpse not just into their development tool preferences, but it also provides some reflection into the approaches they take in creating courses.

OutStart Trainer - I am currently using another DHTML editor in which I am not enthralled at all. Adobe CS4 eLearning Suite - I am still working with CS3. High end microphone - It will come in very handy for adding audio to courses, plus it will look great on my desk.

Development Tools I Would Learn If I Were You - June's Big Question

Keep in mind some may be DHTML output, others create Flash SWFs. HTML/HTML5 : Learning HTML will come in very handy, especially if your WBT tool creates DHTML files, which you may need to edit at times. If you are lucky enough to have a graphic artist on staff, it is still good to know the basics and be able to "speak their language."
