How To Train Employees For Product Launches Using Microlearning

A product launch is a critical event for any organization. It is the final test of the years of development and the combined effort of a number of teams hailing from different departments of an organization, not to mention the millions spent during development.

Unfortunately, all of the efforts and costs sometimes goes to waste due to a simple lack of proper training. Thus, a formal product launch training that utilizes a modern digital learning approach is vital for the success of a product launch. Looking at recent trends and the learning requirements of a product launch training program, microlearning looks like a suitable digital learning approach.

Microlearning is a must-have digital learning add-on in every type of training these days, and that goes for product launch training as well. There are a number of reasons microlearning works well for product launch training, some of which include its short duration, low cost, conciseness, ability to replace heavy training modules, as well as the ability to engage modern learners.

1. Use Storytelling In Microlearning

People love stories. Be it a customer or an organization’s employee or learner, everybody loves a good story that keeps them interested and engaged. This is why storytelling is such an effective strategy to help people learn, as stories help people make an emotional connection with the information that is being provided to them. Using storytelling in microlearning during product launch training, a) helps employees learn more about products and b) helps them incorporate storytelling in their own pitches to customers.

2. Use Simulations In Microlearning

Product launches basically concern the sales department more than any other department in an organization. This is why product launch training concerns salespeople more than any other employees. Sales people need to be able to identify potential customers of a product in order to be able to sell to them, and to do that, they need to be able to get into their minds. Simulations in microlearning should use characters that are based on the personas of real customers, so that the employees understand what makes the customer buy the product. eLearning designers can create a number of modules based on real customers with real queries and problems as modules are only 3-5 minutes long.

3. Incorporate Quizzes In Microlearning

The most important factor in product launch training is product knowledge. If and when employees know all there is to know about their product, there is very little that can go wrong during a product launch. In order to really drill product knowledge into the minds of your employees, you can use quizzes at regular intervals in microlearning courses to test and reinforce employees’ product knowledge.

4. Create Mobile-Accessible Microlearning

A product launch means that employees are going to become exceedingly busy. Any training that has to be provided must be provided before the actual launch as they will not have time to access modules during and after the product launch. Or can they? Using mobile-accessible microlearning means that employees can actually spare 3-5 minutes to have a look at microlearning module on their smartphones for just-in-time learning if they get stuck on something, cannot remember what to do in a certain instance or just need to refresh their skills before engaging with a customer.

5. Use Microlearning In Every Phase Of Product Launch

A product launch occurs in 3 phases: Pre-launch, Launch and Post-Launch. Microlearning can be used in each of these phases in different ways to help learners make the best of them. In the pre-launch phase, microlearning can be used to introduce employees to the product, give them basic product knowledge as well as information on competitors that make the same type of product. In the launch phase, microlearning can be used to give employees novel tidbits about the product which the employees in turn can use to create a buzz in the customers. Finally, in the post-launch phase, microlearning can be used to reinforce product knowledge, and refresh skills and knowledge just-in-time.
