I'm debating the value of forum / group / threaded discussion software vs. social network software for a particular situation. A user can do this through posting to a threaded discussion quite easily. Typically they center around threaded discussions. Possibly they've never used threaded discussions either.

I was talking with my ITA colleagues, and we were discussing the state of awareness of social learning. not a discussion forum available during a course: you need people interacting around artifacts – posts, pages, videos, etc – to generate meaningful outcomes. discussing different ways of getting something done.

Developing learning to learn skills

At least, you should be facilitating proper approaches in public forums, like social media. You can point out, as a meta-discussion, when people are learning effectively. You can set up such opportunities in your formal learning (and should), but you should also be coaching around real work.
