I do have quibbles, and one is the persistence of learning myths.

Small thoughts about Smalltalk

After a post-doc looking at learner models, I ended up teaching interface design (and researching educational technology). It’s ironic that between then and when I ended up teaching in a school of computer science, I somehow lost that focus. I’d gone to grad school to get a grounding in cognitive science in just such a place.

Top 10 Learning Tools for 2022

Google Docs. My blogging tool, is a major part of my learning process. In meeting my commitment of at least a post a week, I’m motivating myself to continue to explore new topics. In collaborating with folks on a suite of things we’re working on, we’re learning together.

Similarly, Google Docs is too awkward, and I never got my mind around Scrivener. Which is why I need industrial strength outlining in my writing package. I want to be able to manipulate the whole document, moving sections. Which is why I use Microsoft Word, I just haven’t found that Pages can do it.

Top 10 Tools for Learning 2020

And… Honorable Mention: to round out the picture (10 is such an arbitrary number ;), sharing collaborative documents, e.g. Google Docs , is a major way to collaboratively process and learn together. And LinkedIn is a place for learning as well, professionally as opposed to personally.

Working virtually

It’s even fun to be working together watching several of us editing a doc at the same time! I’m experimenting with their draw tools; while they’re not as smooth as OmniGraffle, they’re quite robust.

How I work

With IBSTPI and others, Google Docs are a frequent way to develop and share documents. Facebook is reserved for interpersonal communications with friends, but it helps keep me sane. I do use email to communicate, and am on a couple of mailing list communities that also occasionally do events.
