Looking over the tutorial, I wondered if I could follow the steps to recreate the icon in PowerPoint. Obviously the steps are a bit different and since PowerPoint is not as robust as Illustrator, you have some limitations. Another benefit to this exercise is learning to use PowerPoint in new ways. Understanding PowerPoint Slides. PowerPoint is easy-to-use screen and with some practice, you can build almost any type of visual. Because of this, I build my simple graphics in PowerPoint and save the slides as images. In PowerPoint, we need to do two things: set slide size and then whatever we build we export as an image.

A few years back, I was at a workshop where the PowerPoint team was showing some of the new features in the soon-to-be-released PowerPoint 2010. Above is an example of a PowerPoint screen scaled down to fit in a small recording window. Here’s an example of what I do: Let’s suppose I am recording some PowerPoint tutorials. png or powerpoint.png. I did a quick PowerPoint tutorial & added the community logo and link to the image. I prefer a solid white graphic.

For my demos, I decided to stick with PowerPoint to show that if that’s all you have, then you still can do quite a bit. PowerPoint 2010 comes with a background removal feature which makes it really easy. Older versions of PowerPoint have a simple feature that lets you make a single color transparent.
