Theme Copying Failed
(8)

When I launch Adobe Captivate, I get an error window that says “Theme copying failed. Try manually copying Adobe Captivate theme files from “/Applications/Adobe Captivate 2019/Gallery/Layouts/11_0/en_us” to “Users/[Username]/Documents/My Adobe Captivate Projects/Layouts/11_0/en_US”. When I click OK, Captivate will briefly open to the main menu, then crashes a moment later. I’ve tried copying the theme files, but nothing seems to fix the problem.

I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling, to no avail. I’m running Captivate as an Administrator on a 2018 MacBook Pro.

I drove myself insane trying to figure this out based on some of the suggestions others posted. Ended up talking to Adobe’s tech support just a bit ago. An updated solution for anyone using a Mac (in 2022) is to open your documents folder. Once there, look for the folder labeled “Layouts”. If you see a cloud next to the name, click it (just the cloud–do not open the folder). Mine looked like it was merely selecting the folder, but it actually downloaded whatever the updates that were needed and voila la! I was in and back to normal. Hope this helps someone else. 😊

That is what I mentioned before: it is possible that the original theme was corrupted and you may need to replace it by the original theme. That seems to be the way to go, and doing it by using the ‘cloud’ seems to be the Mac version.

Hi there, I had the same frustrating issue and wasted two days of my free trial. In my case, I was using iCloud. I opened the Gallery/Layouts etc. from the Application folder and clicked “Download now” and finally Captivate loaded. It seems that having the Theme files “waiting” on iCloud was the problem. Hope this helps.

Are you telling that you keep the installation folder of Captivate on iCloud?  That could be the reason of your problems. The installation folder, which includes the Gallery with part of the original eLearning Assets, needs to be on your system.

Forgot: is everything on your system, not some paths pointing to a networked frive, or are you using a roaming profile?

As I told, I am not a Mac user. Can you check the exact version number, maybe you do not use the most recent one. You can find it under Help, About Captivate…

From the paths I could see that you are on Mac. Sorry, if my answer is not completely fitting, because I am a in user.

It looks like your themes are corrupt, which leads to that message . You have to close Captivate and perform that copy action. You could try first to copy uniquely the theme you are using at this moment. Is it a theme packaged with Captivate ? I hope so.

I did exactly that; I tried that first, and when it failed, I completed a full uninstall/reinstall of Captivate. Still seeing the same message and experiencing the same crash.
