Captivate 2019 features review

Virtual reality
It’s great to see Adobe leading the charge and bring V.R. to learning. This new feature will be great for creating ‘risk free’ safety drills, orientations and much, much more allowing developers to bring an immersive experience to their learners. There are plenty of options to make to content interactive with a good selection of hotspots to choose from, such as, inserting audio, text and images and a neat Active Gaze feature that automatically launches the interaction when the viewer pauses on it.

Interactive Video
This for me will  be the most used new feature in Captivate 2019. Insert information, knowledge checks and questions into local or a You Tube video by adding overlay slides. The bookmark function makes it easy for developers to take learners’ back to a particular point in a video to check information. Captivate makes it quick and easy to create engaging and interactive video content.

Live Device Preview
A handy new feature, especially for responsive courses, to test how your learners’ will view your content. Captivate creates a QR code and a link as long as its viewed on your network. This is particularly useful when you make changes to your content, just refresh your browser to view the updated content.
It will shortens the testing phase from previous versions of Captivate.

Fluid Boxes
It is now easier than ever to create responsive content with some good updates to the U.I. fluid boxes now get highlighted by color when hovered over on the stage and in the properties panel, which is a neat visual clue to help you when working on different fluid boxes another visual aid in the properties panel is icons that tell you which way the content is flowing, handy for trouble shooting. You can also enter the size of the fluid box from the properties menu handy when you have multiple slides. These changes will have a positive impact in creating responsive content

Conclusion
The new features will keep this version up-to-date well into 2019 and beyond because there are lots of great new features and improvements. Interactive video is a great addition to Captivate’s armory. The live device preview fits nicely with the updates to creating responsive courses. Virtual reality makes the release future proof and lays the gauntlet down in the authoring market. Captivate has never been easier to use.

Totally agree re video overlay as the hottest new feature. I love VR, but so many people have asked me for ways to make video more interactive, and how to do so more easily. This approach is so incredibly simple, I love the bookmarks and love that I can just design slides, then point to them.
