ENSPIRE LEARNING OCTOBER 29, 2012 E-Learning Zombie Apocalypse A few years ago, hundreds of Austinites joined zombies around the globe (91 venues; 13 different countries) in setting a new world record of people simultaneously performing “Thriller.” I was among them. For weeks prior to the performance, small groups all over Austin (and the world) met in various locations to learn the steps and practice together. Shuffle back hop hop forward. We are also highly adaptable and able to learn new behaviors quickly. Part of what allows us to absorb and adapt is our ability to learn from others and from the observations recorded in our collective history. This is the social nature of our existence. Much of the training that happens in the workplace is this kind of observational training. | TONY KARRER OCTOBER 29, 2012 Online Systems for Behavior Change I've always believe that to truly have impact on performance, we need to be experts at Behavior Change. I've written a few times over the years on aspects of solutions that ultimately drive a change in behavior that leads to performance improvement. I'm now working on an very interesting project that is designed to lead to some important changes in behavior that has already had dramatic impacts. | | | | | | | | | -
THE LEARNING GENERALIST | MONDAY, OCTOBER 29, 2012 Adobe Lightroom made simple - post processing tutorials for beginners When you're making pictures instead of taking pictures, the one thing that helps your execute great images is confidence in post processing. There's no substitute for getting the shot right in camera, but unfortunately the device isn't always the best at representing reality. Cameras lack the eye's dynamic range and also the ability to translate colours accurately. And every now and then we all make mistakes that we'd like the opportunity to correct after the fact. So, first things first, shoot in RAW - the amount of flexibility this gives you is quite awesome. Enough said about that. MORE >> -
SPICY LEARNING | MONDAY, OCTOBER 29, 2012 Three lessons in communication from James Bond What is it that makes 007 the suave, confident and cool agent that he is? As impressive as some of his gadgets have been – from dagger shoes and garrotte watches in his early adventures to his Sony Xperia T mobile phone in Skyfall – his outstanding array of personal communication skills have proved time and again to be a more effective arsenal of weaponry at disarming foes and lovers alike. As my colleague Moira noted in a previous post , communication skills vary from person to person. Style can be as important as substance. But unlike James Bond, we have substance. Breaking the ice. CLO MAGAZINE | MONDAY, OCTOBER 29, 2012 Learn With Intensity Design learning around intensity to grow skills and competencies. When I consider deploying a potential learning activity, I always think about its intensity. You should always ask yourself how intense an activity will be for your learners and consider these intensity dimensions: • Interaction : Will the learner watch or read the content and then have to interact, either with structured questions or in a classroom engagement? • Content struggle : How difficult is the content for the learner? • Evaluation and assessment : How tough is the assessment for this program? LEARNDASH | MONDAY, OCTOBER 29, 2012 The Ed-Tech Evolution [INFOGRAPHIC] Education technology has certainly grown over the past century, to the point where the technology itself is becoming more than just a medium of knowledge exchange. While this infographic from Rasmussen College provides nice little tidbits of information, I couldn’t help but notice the glaring gap between the 1930s and 1996. Really? Nothing noteworthy in the Ed-tech realm during this 66yr span?? think this infographic can be built out a bit more, particularly when you consider the advancements being made with modern learning technologies.
